Outgrowing the Baby Gate
For years, safety baby gates were essential in keeping our neurodivergent child safe – preventing nighttime elopement, reducing the risk of falls down the stairs and at times providing separation.
After years of constant use (and plenty of kicking!), we were forever putting the gate back up. Thankfully, my handy husband converted the doorway into a Dutch door with a slide lock, positioned out of reach, creating a safer, more practical long-term solution.
Independence and Safety
Now, our son can independently come and go during the day, opening and closing the door himself rather than relying on us to manage a safety baby gate.
One of the things I love most is that it blends seamlessly with the rest of our home. It looks just like our other doors, so visitors rarely give it a second thought.
Sometimes the best solutions come from years of lived experience, a little creativity, and a very handy husband!
