Neuro Nook Trio

About Us

Neuro Nook Trio was created with a simple belief: everyone deserves to feel seen, understood and valued — exactly as they are.

“Through storytelling and illustration we aim to nurture empathy, encourage inclusive thinking and support all brains.”

As educators, parents and creatives, we’ve seen how easily difference can be misunderstood. We’ve also seen the power of stories, visuals and simple conversations to change that. Our goal is to help children, families and educators build understanding together.

What drives us

Being Seen

Every person deserves to be recognised for who they are

Understanding

Building empathy through stories and conversation

Inclusion

Different is not less — it’s just different

Meet the Trio

Three women bringing together education, parenting and illustration to build understanding of neurodiversity.

Emma
Educational Leader & Parent

Emma

Educator, school leader, and parent learning alongside neurodiverse brains every day. Emma’s world sits at the intersection of classrooms and home life.

My world sits at the intersection of classrooms and home life. Over the years, I’ve worked closely with children whose behaviours were often misunderstood long before they were supported. Those experiences have shaped how I see learning, difference, and the powerful role adults play in creating safety.

As a teacher and leader, I’ve seen how systems, expectations, and adult responses can either nurture confidence or unintentionally add pressure, influencing not only how children see themselves, but how they learn to view and treat one another.

Neuro Nook grew from a desire to help children be heard and understood. Through story, conversation, and shared experience, I hope to build empathy, deepen understanding, and help create spaces where every child feels they belong.

Nicci
Educational Leader & Parent

Nicci

Educational leader, classroom teacher, and parent of a neurodivergent child. The hat closest to Nicci’s heart is advocating for a kinder, more inclusive approach.

Like many parents, I wear many hats. The one closest to my heart, though, is advocating for a kinder, more inclusive future for my two children. One of my children lives with a rare, lifelong condition that affects even the simplest everyday tasks. This lived experience has profoundly shaped our family and how we see the world — through the lens of neurodiversity.

Alongside this, I am an educational leader, inspiring and supporting colleagues to build their capacity to best cater for the diverse learners in their classrooms. I bring both my professional knowledge and lived experience into the work of Neuro Nook, with the hope of nurturing understanding, growing compassion and helping to create a world where neurodiversity is truly embraced — so siblings feel supported, differences are valued and no one feels they have to carry the future alone.

Janani
Art Therapy Practitioner & Parent

Janani

The illustrator and visual storyteller behind Neuro Nook Trio. A mother, artist, art therapy practitioner and primary school teacher who believes in every child’s infinite potential.

I’m a mother, artist, art therapy practitioner and primary school teacher and find that each of these roles gives me a unique lens to understand children’s inner worlds, emotions and ways of making sense of the world. My work is guided by a strong belief in a child’s infinite potential. Regardless of circumstances, each child has the capacity to thrive in their own unique way when they are nurtured through connection, understanding and deep empathy.

Storytelling is a core part of my artistic practice. Through stories, we can make sense of our experiences, process emotion, and learn — the act of storytelling itself offering something deeply cathartic. I believe images speak to the brain differently, capturing stories that words alone cannot hold. Through illustration, I create stories that invite empathy, understanding and pause — especially for children who experience the world differently.

What we believe

Every child’s mind is a real mind. Neurodivergence is not a problem to be solved. It’s a different way of being in the world, and it deserves the same respect and curiosity we give any other way of being.

Families know their children. We make resources to support parents and educators, not to replace the deep knowing that comes from being in a child’s daily life.

Warmth matters. The tone of a resource changes how it lands. We try to make things that feel like they were made by someone who cares — because they were.

Creativity is a language. Art, play, story and song are not “extras.” For many children, they are the first and best way in.

A note on our role

We are educators, parents, and practitioners — not medical professionals. The resources and ideas we share on Neuro Nook Trio are designed to sit alongside the support of teachers, therapists, paediatricians and other specialists in your child’s life, not to replace them. If you are navigating a diagnosis or wondering whether your child might benefit from professional support, please reach out to a qualified clinician. We’re always happy to point you in a helpful direction if we can.
